Dental Dentures
Dentures are artificial replacements for your natural teeth and gums. If you've lost most or all of your teeth due to an accident or poor oral care, your dentist may recommend them.
There are two types: partial and complete. Your dentist will take impressions to create a custom model for your dentures.
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are intended to replace all missing teeth in a full arch. They can be customized for either the upper or lower gum line and are secured by suction and/or an oral adhesive. Similar to partial dentures, they can be easily removed.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are used when surrounding natural teeth cannot support dental bridges or when multiple teeth are missing.
Complete dentures have an acrylic base that mimics gum tissue, with teeth made of acrylic or porcelain. They fit the arch contours for stability during eating, speaking, or swallowing.
Partial dentures feature a metal framework with clasps that secure them to existing teeth, ensuring stability during normal oral functions.
Implant-supported Dentures
An implant-supported denture is a type of overdenture that is attached to implants. Unlike a regular denture, which sits on the gums without support from implants, an implant-supported denture is used when someone has no teeth in the jaw but has enough bone to hold the implants.
How to Clean Dentures
All dentures require daily cleaning, just like natural teeth, as bacteria and plaque can accumulate on them.
To clean, remove the dentures, with water to remove food particles, and brush with a denture brush or soft toothbrush using mild soap or denture cleaner. Don't forget to clean your gums and natural teeth while your dentures are out.
